On Tuesday, Kate and I loaded up in the bike trailer (well, I wasn't in the trailer. She was. I was riding the bike.) and headed down to Deep Eddy Pool. It is about a 7 mile ride (I'm guessing) and we took the Shoal Creek Hike and Bike trail for most of the way. The pool is spring fed, so it's not chlorinated, it also means it's the same temperature year round and it's kind of cool. But Kate didn't seem to mind. They have a big wading section where we spent most of our time. It was really fun. We'll definitely go again next week. And this time I'll take more water for myself, as well as some lunch. I was hot and very hungry when we got home.
On our way home we stopped at campus to see Graeme. He took our picture. Yep, that is a floating toy strapped to the trailer. I was doing my part to keep Austin weird.

Memorial Day
We finally got out of the house today to do something fun. We decided to head down to Barton Creek for a swim, and then Rudy's for bbq. The water level was a bit low in the creek, so the swimming hole we went to was a bit muddy. We could have walked further up stream to better swimming holes, but we wanted to take the shorter, shadier path. But we remembered once again that even if things don't turn out perfectly, it's still fun with Kate and Westley. And the bbq was great, of course.
Update
As Karen said in her update post, there hasn't been that much going on around here since she and the girls left. Yesterday we had a great afternoon - we went to Howard and Laura Sue's and had a boat ride and bbq. And although I took the camera, I took no photos. No evidence of Kate's first boat ride. She also went swimming in the lake, which she really enjoyed. But, no evidence.
Today is Memorial Day, so Graeme is home, but we have no plans yet. It seems like we should do something fun, but we haven't decided what yet. If we do find something, I'll try harder to get photos.

Back to the routine
Karen and the girls left yesterday, and since then we've been working on getting back to our routine. The house is very quiet and seems rather empty. I think Kate was wondering today where her cousins went. She was kind of out of sorts. She is back sleeping in her room after the week with us, and that transition went smoothly except for her early (6:30) morning wake up.
Since my laptop is temporarily out of commission, photos will be a bit slow in coming, but I'll try to get some up from the last few days of Karen's visit before the end of the week.
For now, I'm trying to catch up on sleep. Kate figured out pretty quickly that I was in the room with her at night, so we were up very frequently.

For photos and funny posts
Karen has been writing great descriptions of what we've been doing each day over at her blog. Means I don't have to!

Photos from day 1
I don't have to write about what we did yesterday, because Karen did that already. So, I'll just post a few pictures of the kids from the train ride.

Veggie time
I'm so excited about my garden this year. I have herbs in the front yard in the raised beds, plus when Dad and Donna were here we planted a bunch of native perennials. Every thing is doing really well, so I've added a few more perennials plus I've just planted some in an unused area of the back yard.
I also have tomatoes, eggplant and peppers in pots. I'm very excited to grow veggies (successfully) this year.
Speaking of veggies, Kate's new favourite food is Veggie Booty:

Yesterday's excursion
Yesterday, Kate, Westley and I went for a hike on the Barton Creek Greenbelt. The rain last week meant that the creek was flowing nicely. It was a super humid day, so we didn't hike for very long (maybe 25 minutes) before heading to the creek.

Another finished project
I decided I needed to finish the mostly finished projects around here. I started this blanket before I started the sundress, but it got put on hold when I got to the point where I had to sew the pieces together. I purposefully didn't change the pattern to avoid the sewing since I knew I needed the practice.
It's super soft because I used Superwash Merino. Ahhhhh.

His world is about to change
Kate is suddenly really wanting to move around. Today she moved from sitting to on her belly in order to reach for something just beyond her grasp. And she is getting into a butt scoot position as well. Once she can chase the dog, I'm not quite sure what he's going to do. Right now he counts on the fact that he can move just beyond her reach.

Finished sundress
Yesterday I finally finished the sundress I was knitting for Kate. I took a break in the middle of it to do a few other projects because it seemed to be going so slow. I guess that's how it is for fingerling weight yarn - just kind of slow. But I'm very pleased with how it turned out and it fits her perfectly. And, hopefully, it will fit through the summer.
