Kate had a check up with the opthamologist today. Maybe you remember that she had eye surgery seven months ago to correct her crazy wonky eye. Or maybe you don't. But, either way, although it was much, much better after the surgery, it's not totally better. It still wanders off, especially when she is tired. So, we had it checked today and the surgeon recommends we do the surgery again to correct it all the way. We have it booked for Oct 15th, which is only two weeks away.
It's much less stressful this time since we know how it works and that Kate responds well to the whole thing. She was back to her normal self later in the day after the first surgery, and I expect it will be the same this time.
Thank (insert diety of choice here) for insurance.
Phew, crazy week around here.

Post-surgery
If you didn't know Kate had had surgery on Thursday, you would never guess. She is totally back to her normal self, and other than some eye redness, there is nothing to indicate that anything happened. Well, except for a non-wonky eye and a suddenly straight head.
Thanks for all the good thoughts.

Tomorrow is the big day
Kate's eye surgery is scheduled for tomorrow at 10:30. I was feeling totally fine about it until about 5 o'clock today when I started to freak out just a little bit. I know the biggest risk tomorrow is the drive to the surgery center, but that doesn't change the fact that my baby is having surgery. That they will take her from me, probably kicking and screaming. What I'm most worried about right now though is that she doesn't get to eat any breakfast tomorrow, which will mean that by the time we get to the surgery center at 9:30 she will be a horrible cranky monster.
Think of us tomorrow at 10:30.

Surgery scheduled
I realized today while talking to Karen that I forgot to post about Kate's eye surgery. It's scheduled for next Thursday, the 29th. We're glad to be getting it done, since it seems like her eye has gotten worse. We'll have a pre-op appointment on Monday morning and then the real deal early on Thursday morning.

Under this rock
We're going to crawl out from under here at some point. Kate is sick. She's been sick for four? five? days now. Fever, snot, cough, occasional diarrhea and no appetite. Which means no playdates, no kindermusik and lots of time at home.
Please let her be healthy tomorrow. Otherwise, I might go insane.

Not chicken pox!
The rash wasn't any worse this morning, which pretty much ruled out the pox, but we went to the doctor anyway. He agreed, not the pox. And he said, looking at our file "Did she get the vaccine?". Nope, we decided to wait on that one in the hope that she just gets them some time and has a mild case. If she doesn't get them by the time she goes to school, we'll reconsider. But for now, we're clear. Which means we don't have to skip our awesome mama's brunch tomorrow. Yes, this was entirely selfish.

Hoping for a run of the mill rash
Kate has some spots. I saw a couple yesterday but they looked like mosquito bites (which wouldn't be surprising. There are a lot of them around and Kate has been playing outside a lot.) but there are a bunch more of them today and they don't look like bites. It might just be a random rash, which isn't unusual for kids. But we're a bit worried it might be chicken pox. We'll know in the morning.
Please, let it be a random rash.

Surgery - postponed
Kate's eye surgery is being postponed to some future date. It's not cancelled, since she'll have to have it eventually, but it might not happen for years. As long as her vision isn't being compromised, we can wait. The doctor decided that it wasn't as severe as it first appeared, so we'll go back in three months for another assessment.
Thanks for all the good thoughts. I feel much more relaxed knowing that although she'll have surgery for it at some point, she'll be older when it happens.

Kate's eye
Today we had an appointment with the pediatric opthamologist. She has a 'lazy eye' which has a real technical name which I don't remember but is the result of a muscular imbalance. The amazing thing is that it is very likely this eye thing that causes her neck tilt. So interesting.
But, the result of the appointment is that Kate will need surgery on her eye in about a month. If it was going to get better on it's own, it would have by now. If we leave it too long, it can cause problems in brain development. We have a pre-op appointment on Sept. 4th and the surgery is scheduled for the 9th.
I'm trying not to freak out too much.
